The Strefa WolnoSลowa Foundation invites you to apply for one-week art residencies entitled. Experimental Studio of Performing Arts as part of the Migrart.waw.pl project – the first Warsaw and nationwide database of migrant artists.

We invite you to apply for one-week art residencies ๐ด๐ก๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐ฟ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ฐ๐๐๐ as part of the Migrart.waw.plย project – the first Warsaw and nationwide database of migrant artists.
This season there will be 2 residencies, lasting 1 week each, to choose from according to the schedule:

–ย PLN 5000 gross per group/collective, including production costs.
light/sound support for the show and dress rehearsal (if required);
–ย organisational and content-related support of the residency curator (the scope of support to be discussed individually);
–ย promotional support.
We do not provide accommodation or reimbursement of travel costs for people from outside Warsaw.
We especially encourage people from outside the European cultural circle and from the entire so-called Global North, with refugee experience, queer people and people with disabilities to apply.
Q&A SESSION MEETING
On August 23 at 6:00 PM, an online Q&A session will be held for (potential) participants of the open call. Project coordinators ลukasz Wรณjcicki and Stanley Ndua will answer your questions about the residencies and open calls. The session will last 1 hour. Languages: English and Polish. If you’d like to participate in the session, please send an email to lukas@strefawolnoslowa.pl no later than one hour before the meeting. You will receive a link to the meeting in a reply email.

Two collectives/groups will be selected by the Strefa WolnoSลowa foundation team, comprising ลukasz Wรณjcicki, Stanley Ndua, Alicja Borkowska, Paweล ลuhowy and Weronika Chinowska
The residencies will take place at the Powszechny Theatre in the space “Scena 100” (former Club Mรณzg / InSzPer). The space, including lighting and sound system and facilities, will be at your disposal for the entire duration of the residencies according to the rules of cooperation set out in the contract with the Strefa WolnoSลowa Foundation.

Only groups/collectives consisting of at least two people, at least half of whom are people of migrant origin living permanently or temporarily in Warsaw, can apply. Anyone can apply, regardless of age and residence status in Poland.
๐๐ก๐๐ญ ๐๐จ ๐ฐ๐ (๐ง๐จ๐ญ) ๐๐ฑ๐ฉ๐๐๐ญ?
The theme for all residencies is ‘temporary community’. The theme can be taken very literally as well as radically symbolic. We are keen to invite people who practice an experimental and multidisciplinary approach to the performing arts. Open to ignorance, uncertainty, non-obviousness and wandering. Those translating the creative process over the finished art product. At the end of the residency (on the 7th day of the residency at the latest), we expect a show of the work of the resident artists.The format of the show is up to you, it can be for example : a show of work in process (in any form), a performative installation, a workshop, a laboratory, a performative lecture, a performance, a presentation, a performative reading and whatever else you think fits the nature of your work.
We would like to see a reference to the theme of ‘temporary community’ in the description of your project/ idea.
Your projects can be either in the idea stage or already a finished activity that you want to develop in residency.
We are NOT looking for projects of a national, ethnographic, patriotic or religious nature.
Experimental Studio of Performing Artsย is a space free of racism, chauvinism, nationalism, sexism, homo- and transphobia.We expect submitted projects to be in line with these guidelines.

Do you know the Hollywood film “Planet of the Apes”? Now I have a movie “Planet of Women” in my life. Refugee… For me, it was a word from TV news or documentaries. Is it me now? I thought about it when I stood in line at the Ukrainian-Polish border. I looked around; my husband and all the other husbands were standing behind the fence. Because men cannot go further, men are not allowed to cross the border. Men brought their wives and children to the border to save them from the war. War is a men’s affair. And from that moment on, for me, the world of men was left behind. And I moved forward. I looked around and saw that there were only women around me. Women and children. I landed on the Planet of Women. I never had so many women around me. I was used to counting on my husband. I once relied on my husband, father, and friends. I didn’t know how I would manage myself and my children in a foreign country, in a foreign language. But in this critical moment, I felt the power of femininity. In Poland, I was surrounded by only women. And at some point, I realized that the Planet of Women, where I found myself, began to heal and cure me. We will talk about this female support in the performance ๐๐ต๐ช๐ท๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ช ๐ด๐ธ๐ซ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฝ.

Mountain of voices – the second artistic residency as part of the ๐๐๐๐ฃ๐๐ฃ๐ฅ.๐จ๐๐จ.๐ก๐ – Experimental Studio of Performing Arts
๐โร๐๐๐๐ธ is a project that explores various aspects of volcanoes, the first builders and destroyers of life on Earth. Through performances and installations, TRรMULA attempts to interpret volcanic features using the body, video, and sound.
๐โร๐๐๐๐ธ – ๐ถรณ๐๐ ๐ถล๐๐รณ๐ : sound community.ย We created several unique performance experiences with active audience participation, creating a temporary community of voices immersed in a volcanic atmosphere. Together, we will become ๐ถรณ๐๐ ๐ถล๐๐รณ๐ , participating in an experimental ritual symbolizing the roar of nature’s forces and their transforming power.

Multimedia performance “na cztery rฤce | ั ัะพัะธัะธ ััะบะธ” as part of the 3rd residency of theย ๐๐๐๐ฃ๐๐ฃ๐ฅ.๐จ๐๐จ.๐ก๐ – Experimental Studio of Performing Arts.
Mariia Lozova – choreographer, performer, and dancer of Afghan-Ukrainian origin, and Joanna ลปaboklicka – Polish visual artist, tell about the multi-level relationship in their two-person micro-society. Together, they ask: how are relationships formed between us, not only symbolically but also in everyday life? The performance is a trial, reflection, and feeling in which the artists let things happen. A sculpture that can be rotated becomes a dynamic tool for connecting, modifying, and exploring new relationships and the ephemeral concept of community. The artists invite everyone to an open creative dialogue in an atmosphere of openness to ignorance and uncertainty: together, we can reflect on closeness and community and explore how two unique identities can resonate together.
