After The Grass is Greener Here and I’ll Bring my Backyard Here Strefa WolnoSlowa is realizing the third performance, another outcome of multicultural theatre workshops. This time the workshops were organised together with the Foundation for Development “Beyond Borders”, and the starting point for theatre work was Antigone by Jean Anouilh. The French writer’s text and the Antigone myth itself were used to confront workshop participants with the subject of opposition to repressive power and traditional social roles. The group referred to the topic of rebellion through verbal and physical improvisations. Using theatrical language, members of the workshop group were wondering together what it means, in cultural context and in their native country, to oppose the power and what kind of consequences such an action entails. Many exercises were devoted to situations and motifs associated with leaving one’s homeland, confrontation with traditions, religion, family, and social expectations.  We are working on the performance, which will become a reflection on contemporary migration from the perspective of the participants, their individual stories and the history and events in their native countries.

Both Poles and foreigners living in Warsaw took part in the workshops and in the creation of  the dramaturgy, i.a. from the Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Turkey, Iran, Germany, Romania, Morocco, Israel.
