Within this international project Strefa WolnoSlowa organized in April 2013 in Warsaw a multicultural theatre workshop involving over 40 amateur actors from 15 countries, such as Poland, Italy, Morocco, Afghanistan, Somalia, Russia, the Ukraine, Congo, Sweden, Armenia, Macedonia, France, Belarus, and other. The actors were involved in joint creative work as well as in the preceding action of creating the dramaturgy via the Internet.

Four partner organizations took part in the creation of the final performance – Strefa WolnoSłowa, Teatro dell’Argine from Italy, Cie Scaffolding from France and Storytelling Organisation from Sweden.

The project build the basis for the creation of a kind of artistic exchange platform – theatre network of European organizations that combine in their work  the theatre and social issues associated with multicultural dialogue, migration and refugees.

The participants of the project, monitored by Italian director Pietro Floridia, prepared an interactive performance entitled “The End of the Titanic” which became a journey across the contemporary world undermined by economic crisis and social unrest.  The texts used in the performance was inspired by H.M. Enzensberger’s The Sinking of the Titanic. Additionally, we used dialogues and monologues written by Tomasz Gromadka, as well as fragments of texts written during the interactive action of creating the dramaturgy on-line, which became an international platform for the exchange of experiences and reflections on the events in today’s Europe.

The sinking of the Titanic by  H.M. Enzensberger, which became the inspiration for creating the performance, was written by the German poet and intellectual in Cuba and West Germany at the end of the 1960s and at the beginning of the 1970s. It’s a story about humanity in the face of an upcoming catastrophe. In the text, political events intertwine with metaphorical images. The work is a reflection on social divisions, the end of a specific order and the phenomenon of otherness, as well as the intermingling  of different cultures in the construction of today’s world.

The performance directed by Pietro Floridia, a director from Teatro dell’Argine in Bologna,  was shown on 14th April 2013 in Warsaw, in Studio Teatralne KOLO and in June 2013 in theaters in Bologna and Volterra.
